A close-up photo meeting with the deer in Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park in Dublin in Dublin is probably the most amazing city park I have ever been to.  At 707 hectares it is one of the largest enclosed parks within any European city. Add to it that it is extremely well kept and beautifully landscaped.

And then there is the deers! Several hundreds of them – living in the middle of a big city and walking freely about the huge Phoenx Park.

The deer were used to human beings – and I was able to walk as close as 10 meters before they decided to move away from me.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

I used my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM for these photos. That allowed me to get very close and also take pictures with a narrow depth of field.

I took most photos with an aperture of f/2.8 or f/3.5. I wanted to blur the background so that all attention would be drawn to the eyes of the deer.
